We had the chance to catch up with Wrestling Co-Head Coaches Logan Peterson and Travis Deegan. Here is what they had to say.
1. Looking back on the season, what were some of the highlights?
This season was filled with incredible moments, but one of the biggest highlights was watching our guys develop and peak at the right time. Seeing their hard work pay off at the regional tournament, where we took second place as a team, was a huge accomplishment. The growth each wrestler showed throughout the year—both on and off the mat—made this season one to remember.
2. As coaches, what are some of the improvements you saw throughout the season and how will you look to build off of that within the off season?
The biggest area of improvement we saw was in how our wrestlers mentally approached matches. From training to nutrition to match preparation, they showed significant maturity and discipline throughout the season. This mindset shift made a huge difference in their performances, and we'll look to build on that in the offseason by continuing to push mental and physical development. The expectation is always to keep improving, and that's exactly what we'll aim to do.
3. You sent 5 wrestlers to the national tournament to cap off the season! Recap the journey there and the tournament for those guys.
Sending five wrestlers to the national tournament was an incredible way to cap off the season. Every guy battled hard, proving they belonged on the big stage.
- Tegan Sherk had a heartbreaking early loss but showed just how tough he is, bouncing back with win after win to take 3rd place—the highest finish for Ridgewater since 2016.
- Tucker Hugg had a great run, going 4-2 before falling just short in the blood round.
- Kyler Sherk, Jimmy Morgan, and Cody Brott fought hard but each finished 0-2 in a tough bracket.
Taking 5th place as a team at Nationals speaks volumes about this group's work ethic and determination.
4. Looking at the season as a whole, how do you feel things went and what are your expectations for next season?
Overall, this season was a success. The team made steady improvements, pushed each other to new levels, and represented Ridgewater with pride. Going forward, the goal remains the same: keep improving—both mentally and physically—and continue to build a program that competes at the highest level.
