The Ridgewater College men's and women's basketball teams participated in the 2025 Sanford Classic this past weekend, facing tough competition and showing strong performances on both sides.
The Lady Warriors opened the tournament Friday afternoon against Northwestern's JV. Despite a solid effort, the women fell 107–48. Sophomore guard Julia Hines led the way with 18 points, while freshman forward Teagan Oslin contributed 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
On Saturday, Ridgewater took on Dordt's JV and jumped out to an early lead, winning the first quarter 20–13. However, Dordt rallied back to take the 94–58 victory. Freshman forward Madison Norsten paced the Warriors with 20 points, and freshman guard Aly Wendlandt added 18 points along with a team-high 7 steals. Oslin again battled on the boards, pulling down 6 rebounds. The Lady Warriors now sit at 1–2 on the season.
The Ridgewater men's team, meanwhile, had an impressive weekend. On Friday, they edged Northwestern's JV in a high-scoring battle, 96–90. Sophomore guard Tyrese Mayo led the charge with 21 points and 4 assists, while DeAndre Holloway and Brenton McKinney each reached double figures. Freshman forward John Hooker added strength on the glass with 8 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Warriors carried their momentum into their matchup with Dordt's JV, dominating from the start. Ridgewater held a 62–36 halftime lead and went on to win decisively, 115–81. Mayo led the offense again with 24 points and 3 assists. Connor Whitted and Holloway both chipped in 17 points, and Holloway pulled down 12 rebounds in the win. The men improve to 2–0 on the season.
Both Ridgewater teams hit the road again next weekend, traveling to face Itasca Community College on Friday and Northland Community College on Saturday.
