Sophomore Standouts Lead Warriors to Weekend Sweep

The Ridgewater Men's Basketball team continued its undefeated start, improving to 4-0 after earning two impressive MCAC Crossover victories this past weekend. The Warriors hit the road Friday to take on Minnesota North College–Itasca, then wrapped up the weekend Saturday against Northland Community College.

 

Warriors Roll Past Vikings

 

Ridgewater opened the weekend with a dominant 113–91 win over the Vikings on Friday. The Warriors exploded out of the gate, building a 57–38 halftime lead and maintaining control by outscoring the Vikings 56–53 in the second half.

 

Sophomore forward DeAndre Holloway, a KMS High School graduate, powered the offense with 24 points and 12 rebounds—nine of them coming on the offensive glass. Sophomore guard Tyrese Mayo, from Winter Haven, FL, delivered a strong all-around performance with 21 points and 4 assists. Ridgewater controlled the boards with a 49–37 rebounding advantage and forced 15 turnovers, converting them into 24 points.

 

Tight Battle Ends in Another Warrior Victory

 

On Saturday, the Warriors completed the sweep with a 79–71 win over the Pioneers. Ridgewater took a narrow 36–31 lead into halftime, and the game remained tight throughout. The Warriors edged out the second half 43–40 to secure the win.

 

Holloway recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Mayo again led the charge with 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Ridgewater's aggressiveness helped them get to the free-throw line 18 times, knocking down 14. The Pioneers managed just 7 free-throw attempts, making 6.

Looking Ahead

 

Now 4–0 on the season, the Warriors return home for matchups this Friday and Saturday against Rainy River and Hibbing Community College as they look to keep their unbeaten streak alive.
