The Ridgewater men's basketball team is off to a strong start at 6–1, opening the season with six straight victories before falling to NJCAA Division I opponent NDSCS on Wednesday night. The Ridgewater women's team sits at 3–5 after also dropping their matchup against NDSCS.
The Warriors' men held a narrow 43–40 lead at halftime, but the Wildcats surged in the second half, outscoring Ridgewater 50–39 to earn a 90–82 win. Sophomore guard Tyrese Mayo turned in a standout performance, pouring in 32 points while collecting 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Sophomore DeAndre Holloway added an impressive double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 blocks.
Ridgewater now looks ahead to a weekend road stretch with games against Gogebic and Central Lakes on Friday and Saturday.
On the women's side, the Warriors trailed NDSCS 42–33 at halftime before the Wildcats pulled away for a 93–56 victory. Freshman guard Aly Wendland led Ridgewater with 12 points, while fellow freshman Charlize Acroen chipped in 11 points on efficient 5-for-9 shooting.
The Ridgewater women return to action today as they host Sisseton Wahpeton.
