5 Warrior Wrestlers are Headed for Nationals

We had the opportunity to ask Warrior Wrestling coach Logan Peterson some questions regarding his team. Recently 5 warrior wrestlers qualified for the National Championships at Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA. The National Championships will take place on March 6th & 7th. Those 5 wrestlers include: Gabriel Michels (125), Carson Nelson (133), Caleb Michels (157), James Morgan (165) and Jarred Goodman (184).

1. Looking back at the season so far, what moments stand out as turning points for the team?
Mid January was when things really shifted for us. That's when the technique started clicking for a lot of the guys. You could see the confidence building match by match, and the quality of wins started improving. It wasn't just effort anymore. It was belief mixed with execution.

2. What has the journey to qualifying for nationals been like this year?
It's been a grind in the best way. We've had ups and downs, battled through injuries, and had to make adjustments along the way. Nothing came easy, and I think that's what makes this group dangerous. They've had to earn everything.

3. What adjustments or improvements has the team made to reach this point?
The biggest improvement has been refining technique. At this level, small details decide matches. We've really focused on tightening positions, cleaning up finishes, and making sure we can win those key scrambles against high level competition.

4. Was there a particular match or tournament that built confidence?
The MCAC Dual Tournament was a big one for us. Placing second as a team showed the guys we can compete with anyone when we're wrestling the right way. That tournament gave us momentum heading into the final stretch.

5. How has the team pushed each other in the practice room?
We believe iron sharpens iron. Our room has been competitive every single day. The pace is high, drilling is intentional, and no one takes rounds off. That environment forces growth.

6. What has been the biggest challenge this season?
Injuries have been the biggest challenge. Managing bodies while still improving technically isn't easy. But the guys stayed focused and never made excuses.

7. How are the individuals preparing mentally and physically as nationals approaches?
Right now we're sharpening, not reinventing. Physically, we're refining the techniques that will win key matches. Mentally, it's about confidence and composure. Trust the work and stay aggressive.

8. Who is going to nationals and what are their strengths?
Gabe Michels brings an unstoppable motor. He pushes a pace that wears opponents down.
Carson Nelson is dangerous in every position and can pin anyone in the bracket.
Caleb Michels has high level throws and always shows up ready to compete.
Jimmy Morgan is fundamentally sound and extremely difficult to score on.
Jarred Goodman has the mentality of a bear. Tough, physical, and relentless.

9. What goals have you set for nationals?
We want everyone winning matches. We expect to have multiple guys on the podium and we're aiming to place top five as a team.

10. What message would you share with supporters?
Be ready for some fireworks. These guys are exciting to watch and they're prepared to compete hard. We appreciate the support all season, and we're ready to represent at nationals.
